THE OUTSTANDING pair of Holmwood athletes, Sonita Sutherland and Rosemarie White, were earlier this week presented with three-year scholarships at G.C. Foster College, beginning with the new term in September.

The gesture was extended by Windalco at its Kirkvine offices.

Pat Anderson, the company's community relations officer and long-considered a 'godfather' for Holmwood Technical, chaired the short but inspiring presentation ceremony which included Jamaica's first female Olympic gold medallist Deon Hemmings-McCatty, school principal Paul Bailey, coach Maurice Wilson and Windalco's outgoing managing director, Michael Collins, and his replacement, Gabriel Henn.

Anderson said the choice to assist the athletes was easy because of an interest by both to stay in Jamaica to pursue their studies and the fact that they had, through performance and attitude past help from the company.

The scholarships are each valued at $300,000 and will cover the cost of tuition and boarding for a duration of three years.

As for Holmwood itself, it can expect to secure continued assistance from Windalco assured Marcia Tai Chun, director of human resources.

"As a company we support excellence and that is your school motto, " Tai Chun said.
